Climate Action Working Group Session

The Climate Working Group will dig deeper into the climate adaptation measures that the General Plan should consider focusing on the climate adaptation side of the climate equation, specifically anything related to land use.

The team has drafted a memo (link here) to provide a draft list of possible Petaluma General Plan land use measures related to climate change impacts, particularly predicted changes in flooding from rainfall hydrology and sea level rise as well as excessive heat and fire. They also touch on drought measures and EV charging. Please see the draft memo (link here).

They do not want to duplicate efforts. Rather, they want to ensure the General Plan brings in the hard work that is already underway in Petaluma, complement that work, and ensure that the General Plan takes into account the massive impacts that climate change will have on Petaluma.

They invite you to their first one-hour brainstorming meeting to hear your thoughts, feedback and ideas as they work to ensure climate change adaptation measures are embedded into the General Plan.

Please contact Jessie Feller (jessiefeller@gmail.com) for details and to RSVP.

Housing Element 101 Public Workshop (Virtual)

The Housing Element 101 Community Workshop will be the third in a series of three community meetings to learn about and shape our community’s approach to our next Housing Element, Petaluma’s plan to provide needed housing and increase housing equity over the next eight years.

The community meeting will include a presentation on the purpose of a Housing Element, a discussion of community input on housing received to date, and will highlight current City efforts. The key to this workshop is small group discussions to explore housing goals, sites, policies, and programs.

The input from this public workshop will ensure the community’s priorities are reflected in the Housing Element.

Parking Study Session (Virtual)

The Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee, Planning Commission, and City Council came together in a joint meeting to kick off the Parking Study Session series. The virtual session on March 28, 2022, provided a space to learn about off-street private parking standards and share perspectives on the direction to take as the City reconsiders how to align its policy with current values like carbon neutrality.

While this session is not officially part of the General Plan Update process, the impacts of Parking reform in Petaluma will have important implications for further planning phases in land use.

For more information on the Parking Study Session and future sessions, please access the Parking Standard’s Ordinance Update section of the City webpage.
